Summer is a great time of year for Shoppinggirls to enjoy wearing swimsuits for leisure, exercise, or just playing around in the surf.

As most Shoppinggirls have discovered, one swimsuit won’t be sufficient to meet all of your swimwear needs.
Take it from coastal Shoppinggirls who know: Even if you are just spending a day at the beach, you will likely want to be able to change your swimsuit during the day.

Bikinis, while adorable and practical for sunbathing, are notorious for coming untied in the surf, no matter how tightly you secure the knots! You’ll probably want to change into a one-piece before hitting the water for some body surfing.

A swimsuit issue often facing a Shoppinggirl is that of the professional event, such as an office picnic, or pool party at the CEO’s house with clients. You definitely need to give some thought to your choice of a suitable outfit for such occasions. It is important that you embrace the relaxed, casual vibe. But this isn’t the scene for rocking your Mermaid bikini, no matter how cute it is.

Modest Shoppinggirls may feel inhibited about enjoying watery fun because of a misconception that all swimsuits are overly revealing. Never fear: Wonderful alternatives are available that will keep this from being a problem. It’s easy to find swim gear that offers complete body coverage online. Select items made from Sun protective fabric, and you’ll be ahead of the curve in keeping your skin beautiful and healthy. Not only that, but you’ll also avoid those pesky stings from our ocean friends, the jellyfish!

Some Shoppinggirls are not shy violets. They’ve worked H-A-R-D to get into shape, and they want to prove it! It is a wonderfully freeing experience to be minimally clad when you’re swimming or enjoying the beach. The sensual reality is natural, fresh and real, not a warped cultural manipulation that is seedy or uncouth.

For those Shoppinggirls, bathing suits of every fabric, color and style can often be found for cheap, since micro suits require minimal fabric and tailoring to produce. These are great suits for fad wear; something you’ll enjoy for just one season. They also pack well. Do the beach like the locals: Stash your bikini in Summery cargo pants that will roll up for wading in the surf. Add sunscreen and lip balm. A comb if you really need it (remember, beach hair is famous as a desirable look). Sunglasses and a foldable hat. Get a chiffony cotton scarf big enough to sit on, roll it up, and tie it on as a belt. Now, you are good to go without the hassle of hauling a beach tote. Oh, and leave your phone at home. Seriously. The beach is for being unleashed. Let Life happen.

21st Century Shopping Girls are lucky. Swimsuits are available that are truly practical, as well as fashionable. Sensible features such as sun protective fabric and figure support can be found in many styles and sizes to flatter your figure. Anything goes. Shoppinggirls aren’t subjected to fashion dictates or accessibility problems in finding what they like. No Shoppinggirl wants to buy clothes that don’t suit her awesome individual character.

A bathing suit wardrobe that is comfortable, practical, flattering, and meets your lifestyle needs is a wise investment. There is little worse in wardrobe hassles than trying to find a suitable swimsuit for a particular occasion in a hurry!

While we are sure that all Shoppinggirls know the wisdom of wearing sunscreen and Sun-protective gear to keep their beautiful skin in the best of health, we do recommend that you consider purchasing swimwear made from Sun protective fabrics. These products generally offer a UPF of 50+ which means, essentially, that they block nearly 100% of both UVA and UVB rays. Who wouldn’t want that kind of protection from damaged, wrinkly skin?

What is the difference between the more familiar term, SPF, and UPF?

-SPF stands for “Sun Protection Factor”. It is a rating used for sunscreen products (like the lotions your apply to your skin).
-UPF stands for “Ultraviolet Protection Factor”. It is a rating used for Sun protective fabrics specifically.
-SPF only provides UVB protection (unless the product is specifically labelled as a “broad spectrum” sunscreen). The SPF number is a multiplication of the time it takes for you to burn. For example, sunscreen with SPF 15 means that it will keep you from burning 15 times longer than you would burn without it.

-UPF fabrics protect from both UVA and UVB rays. The UPF number is a percentage of blockage protection. Most UPF fabrics have a 50+ block rating. To simplify, this means essentially that, out of 50 UVA/UVB ray particles that hit the fabric, over 49 of them will be blocked from reaching your skin; or about 98%. Note that these fabrics are labelled “50+”, so they essentially will block all UVA/UVB rays.

Keep in mind that Sun protective apparel isn’t limited to swimwear. It is a smart choice for all of your outdoor activities. If you cannot find Sun protective apparel that suits your taste and needs, no problem! There are products that you simply add to your washing machine which will turn your own clothing into Sun protective apparel. Everyone (not just Shoppinggirls, but the Guys out there too) should take advantage of this easy way to help maintain a lifetime of healthy, lovely skin. So, even if your favorite bathing suit didn’t come with Sun protective fabric, you can fix that!
