Shopping Girl, Dare to Drive The 2018 Corvette Stingray

A Really Boring Practical Car
A Really Boring Practical Car

Many Shopping Girls feel that it is logical, sensible, and even ethical to make the most pragmatic choice possible when it comes to selecting a car. Doing so is wise. Up to a point.

Does not look this way in Real Life but is Real

As women engaged with Car Culture attest, at least once in her life, every Shopping Girl should own a car because it is insanely powerful both in function and looks. A car that is truly fun to drive and own. A car that makes people ask: “Why did you buy that? That doesn’t seem like YOU…”, while the green light of envy flickers behind their eyes. The kind of car that triggers a subconscious intimidation in certain individuals, who compensate by attempting to race you from the stop-light (an odd proclivity that becomes tiresome quickly).

Even a Shopping Girl that can afford a Ferrari or Lamborghini doesn’t want a lot of car hassles, and those are kind of a hassle to maintain. Make that a huge hassle to maintain. Such cars aren’t designed for the kind of driving the average person does anyway. Vintage muscle cars or hot rods can be an awesome choice but, again, you have to be willing to deal with problematic restoration, repair and maintenance issues. Even if you live in a Car Culture city like Los Angeles, good luck finding that critical part you’ll end up needing.

In terms of what’s available in modern, mass-market vehicles, there have been some improvements in the past few years. A Shopping Girl is no longer stuck with choosing amongst the icky, toy-like, plasticy looking shoeboxes being passed off as “cars” to the general public.

Lack of Truth In Advertising – Not Going 55 MPH No How No Way

The Stingray is the newest in a long line of proven, incredibly popular, and slick looking vehicles that bring a racing vibe to street cars. The 2018 models have incorporated these principles into a wonderfully modern look with authentic, relevant practical vintage design elements from its own ancestry, as well as the lineages of Jaguar, Ferrari and Lamborghini.

The result is, in essence, a legit racecar that counts as a “regular” car. Oh, and it’s less than a quarter of the cost of comparable vehicles that are problematic to handle and maintain.

A Shapely Steering Wheel and Lots of Buttons Offer Ways to Distract Panicked Passengers

The Stingray features a high-end design steering wheel with the sensible flat bottom and shaped upper section for improved comfort and handling. Besides all of the usual handy buttons on the steering wheel for operating your phone, sound system, GPS and the like safely, the Automatic Transmission model includes paddle shifters. I guess Manual Transmission folks still go for the console shift-stick design. The console features highly legible digital readouts and a flat-screen with the usual assortment of apps and services, plugs for recharging your devices, cubbies and the like.

The passenger seat is equipped with both a right and left hand-hold handle. These are purportedly there to assist with ingress and egress. They aren’t fooling anybody with that. Take pity on your passengers, and try not to force them to have to hold on with both hands for dear life too often.

Elusive Actual Storage Space in a Stingray Revealed
Elusive Actual Storage Space in a Stingray Revealed

This, of course, is not an SUV, although the gas mileage ratings aren’t that far off. There is sufficient storage space for general needs, but you don’t buy the Stingray to haul bags of mulch home from the nursery. Since most of us order bulky items online, with home delivery, so we don’t have to wrangle them ourselves anyway, this may not be an issue of concern for you.
